Make Plans to Spend the Weekend with The New Girl in Town
You might enjoy a little company ...
The New Girl in Town is officially arriving on the scene on Friday, July 8.
But you can make plans right now to get together for the weekend.
Wondering what’s inside? Here’s a short excerpt from one of the stories …
The first conversation took place many years ago, when I still felt the wind of life on my face, when the years stretched out before me with endless possibility—when time was my friend and not my enemy.
A shy, fumbling young man of twenty, I had gathered my courage for weeks, rehearsing what I would say and how I would begin. Finally seeing my chance, I approached her with a simple “hello,” hoping it would be enough.
A sweet, precious girl of seventeen, she told me her name was Victoria, and so lovey, I remained nearly speechless when it was my turn to talk. Overwhelmed with her beauty, I stumbled through those first few minutes with some chatter about the weather and the price of cotton—all the while knowing I had found the girl I would marry, the girl with whom I would build my family and my fortune.
And while it was late in the afternoon and the early fall had laced the air with a hint of frost, I felt only the lingering warmth of Victoria’s breath as she accepted my invitation to the autumn harvest dance.
That first conversation left me exhilarated beyond any previous encounter, and to this day I don’t remember my feet touching the ground after leaving her.
In the year that followed, we were seldom apart, our relationship so consuming, so strong, as to suggest we had always been together—and always would be.
Until next time,
