The New Girl in Town goes live on Amazon this Friday, July 8, in eBook and paperback.

I get it … we’re all looking for ways to be entertained without spending a fortune.

So if you’ve been thinking about picking up The New Girl but haven’t made up your mind yet, you can still pre-order the eBook at a special discount price of $2.99.

Why am I telling you this?

I’m a bargain-hunter, just like you. And it’s only fair to let you know that after the book goes live, the price goes to $4.99 …

Here’s a short clip from one of the stories …

The Family Business

Our home was located in one of the nicer sections of town. We drove a new car each year (the owner of the dealership always delivered it personally), and on Sunday afternoons, my mom and I would spend a half-hour looking through catalogs, drawing circles around the things we liked, and deciding which ones to order.

I suppose in the little town where I grew up, my mom was the closest thing there was to a celebrity. Nearly everyone—especially the men—treated her like royalty. That’s not to say she was alienated by the women. She had lots of women friends. Some were clients. But it didn’t seem to matter. Most were sympathetic and understanding. The few who weren’t—the catty do-gooders and judgmental antagonists—we simply ignored.

I never gave much thought to the financial side of the business until I was about thirteen. I knew there were different prices based on what the client wanted, but there was no official price list. It was simply understood: This kind of service would be in the five-hundred-dollar range. Another kind might be more—but never less.

Of all the things I learned from my mother, the most important was to never negotiate price. You’re worth what you’re worth. Just because someone can’t pay the full price doesn’t mean you must lower your rate.
